I read Aaron Pressman’s piece in the globe about Tesla opening it’s first two charging stations in Massachusetts that work for all EV’s. Tesla has the most robust EV charging infrastructure, and opening it up to all vehicles could be a game changer. Massachusetts has 781 fast charger ports and 62 percent are run by Tesla, according to data from the Department of Energy.

Needless to say, I could not wait to try my luck at the Tesla magic dock charging facility in Foxborough. I hopped into my Ford Mustang Mach-e, opened the Tesla app, and learned that 12 of 12 chargers were available. The volume of chargers was simply amazing, given that most facilities have a maximum of four.

I headed seven miles to the chargers just off Route 95 in Foxborough, pulled up to one of the ports, and set myself up for an experience. I learned quite quickly that the cables from the Tesla system were too short to reach the charging port on my vehicle. So, I had to virtually parallel park next to the charger in order to reach it. You can see my positioning in the photographs. That may work when all these stations are available, but I don’t think I’ll be a popular presence if they’re full.

Nonetheless, the charging experience was easy, virtually flawless, and I got to 80% rather quickly.

Thank you, Tesla for opening up your network to the rest of us. There is indeed hope that this will open an infrastructure lane that will make a lot of EV owners happy.
